California Modernist Design (CMD) is a building design firm founded in 2021 by renowned designer, Vitus Mataré. Located in the city of Malibu California, CMD serves clientele in the Greater Los Angeles area.
Our mission is to help each client realize their design goals by preserving a classic modernist aesthetic and delivering contextual solutions.

Study. Our lead consultant begins by researching the specific requirements for entitlements and studies potential entitlement issues.
Risk Assessment. Our team examines all relevant factors from the study to gain an understanding of the project's feasibility. Building on the study findings, we identify and evaluate potential obstacles, challenges, and uncertainties that may impact project success.
Solutions. We explore viable solutions and alternatives that address potential risks while taking into account the client's budget,

Planning. We begin by understanding the client's goals and by gathering all relevant documentation to determine the appropriate design program.
Design. Our team utilizes hand drawings and CAD software to generate schematic design concepts and virtual models for client presentations and planning review.
Coordination. Our hands-on approach includes assembling a project-specific team of seasoned consultants to handle all aspects of the project. We coordinate submittals, corrections, and updates with all third-party agencies.
Permit Processing. CMD pursues entitlements and permits on behalf of the client as we work to resolve any outstanding engineering issues or bureaucratic requirements.
Photo / Video. We begin by discussing the location and its logistics, highlighting key features, and then building a shot list. Our team will arrive on site to bring the concept to life once a detailed production schedule is outlined. We utilize advanced editing and retouching techniques to complete post-production enhancements.
Rendering. CMD utilizes a combination of computer-generated imagery techniques and photography to produce high resolution 3D models.
